The following classes and activities are geared towards preschool children, aged 6 Months - 5 years.
Aquatics Parent-Child Classes (6months-3years)
Parent-child classes for children ages 6 months to 3 years old. Parents attend class with their child and join in all the activities. Lessons focus on water adjustment, safety skills for both the parent and child, and the fundamentals of swimming.
Parent and Tot: (6 months to 3 years old) Water familiarization time for parent and child. Get your child comfortable in a lager body of water. Sing songs, rhymes, and interact with other friends! Blowing bubbles arm movement and leg kicking are some skills we will work on. Online Registration Available
Youth Preschool Swim Lessons (3-5 years old)
All levels contain water and boating safety skills, fun water games and rescue skills. Swimming skills are developmentally appropriate and progressive. Instructional Flotation Devices (IFD's) will be used as a appropriate for the level and skill. At the end of each session your child will receive a progress report showing the skills they have worked on with a rating on how they did. A rating description is listed inside of the progress report to help you and your child see which areas they will need extra work on for the next session. A rating of no more than one 3 in the stroke development area and 4's and 5's are required in all other areas in order to pass through to the next level. At the end of each session you will need to take your child's progress report to the front desk to sign up for the next session.
Pike: Gaining confidence and independence. Child must be able to swim shot distance (6-8 feet) without assistance before moving onto the Eel level. Online Registration Available
Eel: Increased endurance. Rudimentary strokes on front, back and side. Comfort swimming with face in the water. Child must be able to swim width of pool without assistance before moving onto the Ray level. Online Registration Available
Ray: Front alternating paddle with rudimentary breathing, front symmetrical paddle, side alternating paddle, back alternating paddle and back symmetrical paddle. Child must be able to swim one length of the pool (25 yards) without assistance before moving on. Online Registration Available
Swim Team (Y Members Only)
A competitive swim program for those who are able to swim at least one length of the pool. YMCA philosophy of fun and fairness strictly adhered to throughout the swim season that runs October 1 through mid March. In addition to swimming skills, participants develop self-esteem, confidence, time management skills, regard for others, and much more. Fees payable directly to the YMCA of Kewanee.
All classes at the Glen Andris Tumbling and Trampoline Center allow participants to advance at their own pace and develop self-esteem while perfecting tumbling and trampoline skills. Our program uses a nationally will work on progressive technique development. Strength, endurance and coordination come naturally as children progress through the program. Classes are arranged by age and ability level. Fees per 7 week session.
Parent & Tot (ages 18 months - 3 years) 45 minute class
Parent accompanies child. Gross motor skills, learning to take turns and instruction with parent's help. Evening and morning classes. ( 1 time per week)
Tumble Tots (ages 3 years) 45 minute class
Class for pre-school boys and girls designed to develop coordination and beginning tumbling progressions and skills.
Super Tots (age 4 years) 60 minute class
Class to build strength, coordination and basic tumbling trampoline skills and progressions.
Ultra Tots (ages 5 years) 75 minute class
This class is a continuation of Super Tots.
Kinder Play (ages 2-5 years) hour long session / Offered Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
This is not a formal class, it is an open format where children are encourages to explore the gym with the help of a parent and try out the equipment under the guidance of instructors. Obstacle courses and stations will be set up for your child to come and play in the gym. We will also play a group game at the end of every class!
Rugrat Sports (ages 3-5)
A new sport / game will be introduced each week. Must have a minimum of 5 participants to continue. Great program for social interaction. Winter Session Starts: January 5 / Spring Session Starts: February 23 / Online Registration Offered
Youth Basketball (Kindergarten)
Instructional basketball only. This will teach the children the basic fundamentals of basketball while having fun!

Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop (ages 3-4) 45 minute class
Dance...Dance...Dance....Dance education provides opportunities for body awareness, alignment, physical expressions and creativity. The dance student will learn a progression of techniques and terminology through tap, jazz, ballet and hip hop. Classes are offered in combinations. Classes are held Tuesday afternoon / evenings. A recital will be held in the spring. Dance is a continuous program: classes remain the same Fall 1 through Spring 2 sessions.
